WoW Shadowlands: What class changes are you most excited about?
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will be released in the second half of this year, if all goes according to plan. The Shadowlands will be the eighth expansion. You will find: A level squish and new mechanics (like the Pacts), many new instances, raids, and, of course, class changes en masse.
The basic tenor of the WoW classes
Since World of Warcraft's inception, the philosophy of classes has been changed numerous times. We've seen new classes and talents, new mechanics, and revised resources. After 15 years, nothing has been overlooked.
Since a while, the call for class individuality has been echoing throughout Azeroth's hallowed halls. According to Blizzard Entertainment, Shadowlands wants to - in a blog post from April 2020- - return to conscious decision. The name specialization should also mean that it will strengthen a particular aspect of the class. We are curious.
The Balance Druid in World of Warcraft Shadowlands
Today, I want to talk about The Balance Druid, the WoW specialization that has been my constant companion throughout my entire WoW career. I have never experienced such continuity in any other specialization, and I have never felt so comfortable with any other specialty - even though my sweet little owl has had the experience of more design changes than any other.
A new expansion means a fundamental reorientation of me (and my fluffy feathered bird), and Shadowlands is no exception. Below are a few mechanics I would like to share with you and explain why I am eager to get it back. I don't find the many current discussions about damage and scaling individual abilities to be very interesting. The mechanics must be fun, first and foremost.
Heart of the Wild
Finally, the talent that was so beloved in Warlords and Draenor's Mists of Pandaria has returned. Heart of the Wilds made you feel like a true Druid because it incorporated all the best aspects of druids. Apart from the powerful Serenity... WoW Shadowlands: What class changes are most exciting? (3) Source: Blizzard ...remember Ko'ragh in Highrock? The boss with the magic immunity shield Heart of the Wild, I will never forget beating that boss with my cat claws during the final shield phase of our Mythic First Kill. The icing on this cake was the puzzled faces of all the warlocks, mages and other mages.
The new (or old) darkness
We owls have experienced many types of the darkness phase since the introduction of Wrath of the Lich King. Sometimes we were able to use the owls as a procc, other times as a static (and self-moving) pendulum, and sometimes as a build–and-spend resource. The mutually reinforcing benefits of alternate spell use have always been the main focus.
One thing I have learned over the years is that I love RNG-based class mechanics as much as RNG-based loot mechanisms. Because they add excitement to otherwise static combat, this is why I love them so much. Personally, I liked the Wrath of the Lichking and Mists of Pandaria play styles the most.
Is it fun to play as a Balance Druid in WoW: Shadowlands
It is difficult to predict whether the new classes, specializations and talents will be enjoyable in the new world. One thing I can say is that the Shadowlands Owl seems like a return to some of my favorite mechanics, and I'm looking forward to it.
